The 7 cakras
In the Sanskrit language cakra literally means 'wheel'. According the witness of the clairvoyant masters a cakra is an energy-structure looking thus:
Because of their aspect they were often also called "lotuses" (padma-s) in the ancient treatises, and the spokes were called "petals". Because of the existence of 7 different vibratory levels (planes) in the Universe, as well as in man, there are also 7 different such "antennae" - one for each level. Each of them is rooted in the sushumna
nadi (subtly, in the spine) and springs at the surface of the body at a precise spot. In their order, starting with the lowest one till the highest, they are:

1.
Muladhara (4 petals) Spot: pelvic area, between the anus and the sex (rooted at the lower tip of the spine). Gives the attuning with the earth-energies. Coordinates all the mechanical interactions in the Universe (e.g.: gravitation). In the human being it is the source of the vitality, the "battery" of the being. Ancient Yogic texts state that at this level we find the mysterious kundalini power - the potential for cosmic fusion. |

2. Swadhisthana (6 petals) Spot: three breadths of a finger above the sex (viz. root of the penis for men, clitoris for women). Gives attuning with the water-energies. Corresponds to the Moon-influences and to the magnetic forces. In the human being it coordinates the instincts (hunger, thirst, sex, sleep, etc.); it gives sensitivity and social conformism. |

3. Manipura (10 petals) Spot: navel. Attunes with the fire-energy. Corresponds to the Sun-influence and the electric power. In the human being it coordinates ambition, ego, will-power, dynamism, expansion, violence; known as hara in the Far-Eastern traditions. |

4. Anahata (12 petals) Spot: centrally, in the middle of the chest, at the level of the heart. Attunes with the energy of the air. Corresponds to the subtle energies of our galaxy. In the human being it gives love, affection, selflessness, high aesthetic and intellectual feelings. |

5. Vishuddha (16 petals) Spot: above the hollow of the neck. Attunes with the ether. Corresponds to the basic energy of the Universe. We also find here the space-time energy. In the human being it gives a very fast and deep intelligence, together with spiritual intuition. |

6. Ajna(96 petals) Spot: in the middle of the forehead. Attunes with the mind-energies and corresponds to the Universal (Macrocosmic) Mind. In the human level it gives deep insight and mental powers: telepathy, hypnosis, clairvoyance, etc. It is a command
centre. |

7. Sahasrara (972 petals) Spot: in the top of the head, above the physical body. It is not considered to be a cakra properly said, but an autonomous centre, which synthesises all the others. |
Analogy: The white beam contains all the others. Sahasrara corresponds to the Absolute. On the human level it gives the condition of real wisdom.
Also, every cakra has a specific colour, tuning-sound and state of consciousness.
